From Jerry Bowles: I remember the plane crash. Like Harold, I walked out to the site and saw the indentation of the body in the ground. The plane was on fire and was a Air Force twin engine B26 light/medium bomber. I wouldn't swear that this is true, but that's how I remember it.

MI remember the plane crash well. My dad and I were in town We were standing near our car ready to go back homeI saw the plane coming over south of town and it was smoking a lot. I convenced my dad to go out there We were about the first ones there but in less than 5minutes there were people every where. Some one else closer to the crash than we were had seen two people jump out, so we back-Tracked the path of the plane until they were found. It was a pretty bad scene for a not yet 7Th grader.
ReplyDeleteMany years later a friend of mine Told me was in the Oklahoma Air national guard In Okal City at that time and the plane was from their unit Was returning from a practice misssion in Texas and he was supposed to have been on that plane!!
It was a B-25 "Billy Mitchell" twin engined bomber
